Did you know…
Most countries still have laws that make it harder for women to work than men.
104 countries restrict the kinds of jobs women can hold.
18 countries require women to have their husband’s permission to work outside the home.
59 countries provide no legal protection whatsoever against sexual harassment in the workplace.
In this day and age, how can this still be the case? You can read more on these stats and how different countries rank in the Women’s Workplace Equality Index.
The Global Thinkers Forum launched Athena40 earlier this year, the first-ever global ranking of the top 40 most powerful female minds. It is designed to celebrate and empower women. Encourage them to speak up for what they believe in. Be proud of their achievements and continue to push the limits of what they can do.
And you can nominate someone who deserves to be recognised for this.
Nominations are open from October 2018 until December 2019. The 40 finalists will be voted by the Athena40 Global Committee and the public. Based on the number of votes, one ‘Athena’ from each category will be announced on the 8th March 2020 as ‘Athena40-Maverick’.

By celebrating these women, Athena 40 hopes to amplify the ideas and projects launched by women or focusing on women, and helping other women and girls to thrive. So, what can you do to help?
- Nominate someone.
- Spread the word on social media.
- Attend an event.
- Become a sponsor.
- And, quite simply, start talking about the key issues Athena40 is trying to address.
This is just one initiative working towards equality, celebrating women who are trying to change the shocking facts from the Women’s Workplace Equality Index.
